A strategic investment is coming to the Czech Republic. Daimler Truck plans to set up production in Cheb: up to 25,000 trucks per year and 1,100 jobs

On Monday, the government approved key steps for the implementation of Daimler Truck’s planned investment in the Czech Republic. If the project obtains all necessary permits and local government approval, a Mercedes-Benz Trucks manufacturing facility will be established in the Cheb Strategic Business Park. The company plans to produce up to 25,000 vehicles annually at this site and create approximately 1,100 new, predominantly skilled jobs.

Thanks to its proactive efforts to develop industrial sites, the Czech Republic has secured a strategic investment of multinational significance. The German automaker Daimler Truck, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of commercial vehicles, is set to establish a presence in the Cheb Strategic Business Park. The company plans to locate the final assembly of modern Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Cheb. A production line capable of manufacturing vehicles with both combustion engines and alternative powertrains is expected to be established there. Production is scheduled to begin by 2030.

“This is exactly the kind of investment the Czech Republic needs. It creates new opportunities for Czech companies, supports technical education, and strengthens our economic sovereignty. And for the Karlovy Vary Region, there is another crucial aspect—it brings skilled jobs, diversifies the region’s economy, and helps kickstart its long-term transformation. In line with the Economic Strategy ‘Czech Republic: A Country for the Future 2.0,’ we are moving in a clear direction—relying on innovation, modern technology, and cooperation with schools. The goal is simple: for the Czech Republic to develop, manufacture, and make decisions,” says First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček.

The total value of Daimler Truck's investment is in the range of several billion crowns and will not require any investment incentives. The investor plans to produce up to 25,000 trucks annually.

„We are coming to Cheb to stay, and we want to become a long-term, integrated partner for this region. Since our initial discussions with SIRS, the City of Cheb, and CzechInvest, we have received a warm welcome in the region. We are optimistic that together we will take all necessary steps with the required care and speed so that we can smoothly move our project forward in the coming weeks and months,” says Juergen Distl, Head of Operations for Mercedes-Benz Trucks at Daimler Truck.

„As we reshape our European production network at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, we are taking a long-term view. With our planned plant in Cheb, we are strengthening the competitiveness of our production network and clearly focusing on cost efficiency and the optimization of all aspects of production. The addition of the Cheb site will provide our network with much-needed capacity to efficiently and flexibly produce both diesel and zero-emission trucks in the future," adds Distl.

Approximately 1,100 jobs

Daimler Truck’s arrival in Cheb will create approximately 1,100 new jobs. Most of these will be skilled technical and manufacturing positions, which will support vocational training and the return of a skilled workforce to the region. More than half of the employees are expected to have completed at least secondary education. The investor also plans to establish cooperation with educational institutions in the region to recruit a skilled workforce.

The investor has also contractually committed to fulfilling the conditions jointly established by the state and the city of Cheb for investors entering the Strategic Business Park. This primarily concerns the average wages offered. Daimler Truck is expected to offer wages 20% higher than the average in the Karlovy Vary Region. The project will thus significantly contribute to wage growth in the region and serve as an important catalyst for kickstarting its economic transformation.

Daimler Truck’s goal is to secure a long-term, stable, and reliable workforce. When recruiting employees, the company will therefore prioritize the direct hiring of local residents.

Proactive preparation has paid off

The Daimler Truck production facility will be located in the Cheb Strategic Business Park—one of the pilot sites proactively developed by the State Investment and Development Corporation. The site is situated on the outskirts of Cheb, in close proximity to the D6 highway. Its specifications make it suitable for the most demanding strategic investments. In 2023, it was therefore designated as a strategic location under the Act on Accelerating the Construction of Strategically Important Infrastructure. This specific project falls within the scope of manufacturing related to electromobility and modern technologies in the automotive industry.

„Daimler Truck’s interest is the best proof of the effectiveness of the state’s predictive land-use planning concept, as implemented by SIRS. Without the systematic efforts of our company’s employees, the project would have had no real chance of being established in the Czech Republic,” explains Zbyněk Pokorný, CEO of the State Investment and Development Corporation.

Coordinated cooperation between the state—represented by the State Investment and Development Company and the CzechInvest agency—and the city of Cheb played a key role in attracting this strategic investor.

„Daimler Truck’s investment supports the development of the Karlovy Vary Region and confirms the Czech Republic’s attractiveness to strategic investors with a long-term vision. Thanks to the new facility in Cheb and the long-standing bus manufacturing base in Holýšov, the West Bohemian region will become a major European center of innovation in the automotive industry,” says Jan Michal, CEO of CzechInvest.

A Boost for an Economically Disadvantaged Region

The arrival of a strategic investor represents a significant boost for the development of the city of Cheb, which hopes the project will halt the exodus of young, skilled people from the region.

„Cheb is reaffirming its position as a key logistics and industrial hub in Central Europe. The construction of the new business park and the arrival of a strategic investor are the result of long-term efforts by several city administrations. I am convinced that this investment will enhance Cheb’s prestige, boost its economic development, and create skilled jobs, primarily for our citizens. And that this project will bring tangible benefits in the form of better infrastructure and new opportunities in our region. I believe the investor will be a good partner for our city and its citizens,” says Jan Vrba, Mayor of Cheb.

In exchange for the land on which the new strategic park will be built, the city will receive funds that it will use to implement projects outlined in the city’s development plan. One of its main goals is to prepare the infrastructure and civic amenities of the city of Cheb for any potential burden associated with the creation of the Strategic Business Park. For this purpose, the city of Cheb will also receive 600 million crowns from a special offset program of the State Investment Support Fund (SFPI), the parameters of which were approved by the government along with the ratification of the agreement with the end investor.

Cheb City Council Members Will Discuss the Project

At Monday’s meeting, the government approved the financing plan for the infrastructure project and a proposal for completing the site preparation project, including the property settlement and the model for the site’s future use, as well as the method of transfer to the final investor.

The next steps now lie with the Cheb City Council, which will meet on Monday, April 16, 2026. Subsequently, the plan is also to be discussed by the governing bodies of the joint venture between the city and SIRS, which will meet the following day.
