Via the Czech Economic and Cultural Office and CzechInvest, Czechia is taking part in the SEMICON Taiwan 2025 trade fair, one of the world’s most influential events in the semiconductor industry. CzechInvest facilitated the participation of leading Czech technology companies, universities and research institutes, which are presenting the breadth and depth of Czechia’s semiconductor ecosystem together with the agency.

SEMICON Taiwan ranks among the most important international forums where trends and strategies are formulated that will determine the future of the semiconductor industry on the global level. More than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend the event in Taipei together with 1,200 exhibitors from 22 countries, which will take part in more than twenty specialised forums and conferences. The themes of this year’s edition of the trade fair include advanced manufacturing, chips for the automotive industry, the use of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and quantum technologies.

Participation in the trade fair provides Czechia with a unique opportunity to present new advancements and capacities in the areas of research, innovation and technological solutions, while also strengthening the country’s cooperation with international partners. In addition to that, it also underscores the emphasis placed on practical cooperation between Czech and Taiwan in the area of semiconductors.

“We are interested in building a partnership based on a combination of cooperation in the area of business, excellent research and talent development. Czechia’s participation in SEMICON Taiwan 2025 reflects our ambition to present Czechia as a reliable and innovative partner that is able to offer top-level research, technological solutions and a skilled workforce. This is an opportunity for Czech companies to assert themselves with products having high value added and, at the same time, to enhance the potential for their own technological development in cooperation with local partners. Another advantage that we have is our attractive location in the immediate vicinity of key European centres of the semiconductor industry,” said Jan Michal, CEO of CzechInvest.

Czechia’s national exposition at the Taipei Nanang Exhibition Centre was opened by Minister for Science, Research and Innovation Marek Ženíšek, his deputy Jana Havlíková, CzechInvest CEO Jan Michal, Martina Rubešková of the Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, and William Liu, director general of the Taiwan International Trade Administration.

At the Czech exposition, trade-fair visitors can become familiar with a number of innovative solutions, projects and success stories that demonstrate Czechia’s technological advancement and capabilities in the area of semiconductors, as well as in laser technologies and particle imaging. Organisations presenting their know-how in Taipei include the Czech National Semiconductor Cluster, Charles University in Prague, Brno University of Technology, the HiLASE Centre, and the companies ADVACAM, Meopta, DCT Czech, SVCS Process Innovation, UNITES Systems and Vakuum Servis.

The trade fair and meetings with Taiwanese universities have been attended by representatives of the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem, the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň, the Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Technical University in Prague and the University of Tomáš Baťa in Zlín. In the course of these meetings, representatives of CzechInvest have presented Czechia’s semiconductor ecosystem and the opportunities that it offers.

Cooperation between Czechia and Taiwan in the semiconductor sector includes joint activities, particularly the  Supply Chain Resilience Centre and the Advanced Chip Design and Research Centre. Organisations on both sides, including universities, are involved in these activities, which also comprise student exchanges and joint research projects supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.

Czechia is a growing centre of the European semiconductor ecosystem

Thanks to its location in the heart of Europe and its long history in the area of semiconductor technologies, Czechia ranks among the important players in the European chip ecosystem. According to the OECD, the country is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of equipment for the semiconductor industry. For example, Czechia accounts for one-third of global production of electron microscopes.

Eighty companies are active in Czechia’s semiconductor industry and roughly half of them are domestic companies. It is expected that the Czech semiconductor market will grow at a dynamic rate in the coming years. Czechia thus stands before an extraordinary opportunity that can significantly strengthen its role in the global semiconductor supply chain and in related industrial sectors.

“The development of the semiconductor industry is a strategic priority for Czechia. Rising demand for computing capacity both in new fields such as AI and in traditional sectors such as energy and transport will bring about a much greater need for chips. This not only presents an opportunity for companies that do their own development and manufacturing, but is also promising for companies that manufacture equipment for designing, producing and testing chips. Thanks to our tradition of mechanical engineering, there is a full range of such companies in Czechia,” added René Samek, head of the Investment and Foreign Operations Division at CzechInvest.

A major impetus for Czechia’s future direction is the National Semiconductor Strategy of 2024. In spring this year, the Czech Semiconductor Centre was opened in Brno as part of the emerging European network of competence centres and it will become a key player in strengthening Europe’s strategic autonomy within the pan-European Chips for Europe initiative.
