Taiwanese leader in battery systems opens European base in Prague

The Taiwanese company C-TECH United Corporation, a global leader in the area of lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery modules, is opening its first European representative office in Prague. The company intends to commence production in Czechia next year and is also considering the construction of a European research and development centre here. CzechInvest brought this important player in the area of battery systems and clean mobility to Czechia.

C-TECH United Corporation (hereinafter referred to as C-TECH) specialises in designing and manufacturing battery modules and complete battery systems (i.e. packs) that contain individual cells and electronics for control and safety and are prepared for integration into devices. Over the course of its 29 years in existence, C-TECH has become a well-established Tier-1 supplier. It thus delivers key components and systems directly to manufacturers, which then finalise their products. The company’s customers include the leading global brands LG, HP, Dell and Acer.

C-TECH’s product portfolio includes modules for e-mobility, backup power systems (BPS), electromobility applications, 3C/IT equipment and energy storage systems. “By the end of next year in Czechia, we plan to begin production of battery systems for electromobility and industrial energy storage systems for the whole European market. We are adjusting our strategy in connection with the needs of our key clients in the EU. At the same time, we want to provide service and other support to our clients from our facilities in Czechia,” says Van Fan, general manager of C-TECH Czech, which will represent C-TECH Corporation in Europe.

“This investor’s entry is confirmation of Asian technology companies’ rising trust in the Czech innovation environment. C-TECH’s activities will strengthen not only the Czech battery ecosystem, but also the economic partnership between Czechia and Taiwan,” says Jan Michal, CEO of CzechInvest.

Czechia as a strategic hub for the European market

The choice of the Czech Republic as the most suitable European location is the result of a thorough analysis of the respective investment environments of selected countries in Central Europe. One of the deciding factors was support for electromobility and the battery industry, which is embedded in the Czech Republic’s National Clean Mobility Action Plan. “The Czech Republic is exceptional from the strategic and logistics perspectives. The country offers not only a great location, but also the best price-performance ratio. From here, we can easily reach the German market, as well as the Balkans and even African countries in the future. Our decision to establish a presence in Czechia was also influenced by CzechInvest’s foreign office in Taiwan and presentation of your country,” says Van Fan.

The company’s representatives have already been familiarised with several suitable locations for production in the Ústí and Karlovy Vary regions. CzechInvest offers connections to the supply chain and representatives of the domestic battery ecosystem, as well as other services. “We are prepared to provide support for the entire transition from commercial representation to production and, in the future, also for activities in the area of R&D,” says Gabriela Bauerová, head of the Investment Development Department at CzechInvest, adding: “This is the third Taiwanese company that has decided to commence economic activities in Czechia since our foreign office in Taiwan began operations in spring 2024.”

Taiwanese companies rank among the significant foreign investors in Czechia. Companies such as Foxconn, Wistron, Inventec, Asus and Pegatron are also among the largest foreign employers in the country. There is potential for cooperation between Czechia and Taiwan particularly in the areas of semiconductors, electromobility and high-tech applications, as well as know-how transfer and opportunities for becoming involved in new supply chains.

Taiwan plays a key role in the global economy. Taiwanese manufacturers control 90% of the global AI server market and, for example, the company TSMC produces more than 50% of the world’s chips and more than 90% of the highest-performance processors.
