Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk has invested more than CZK 8 billion in its manufacturing facility in Bohumil, Central Bohemia. The project ranks among the most significant investments in advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing made in the Czech Republic in recent years. Novo Nordisk chose Bohumil because of its highly skilled workforce and strong tradition in protein manufacturing, building on more than three decades of the company’s presence in the Czech market.

The official opening was attended by representatives of Novo Nordisk, the Czech Government, the pharmaceutical industry and other key institutions, including CzechInvest, which supported the project by helping coordinate the infrastructure and utility upgrades required for the new facility.

The investment strengthens not only the Czech pharmaceutical sector but also Europe’s capacity to manufacture strategically important medicines and biological products. It reflects the continuing evolution of the Czech economy towards knowledge-intensive industries driven by innovation, advanced technologies and highly skilled talent. The project also creates new opportunities for collaboration between industry, universities, research organisations and innovative companies across the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

Jan Michal, Chief Executive Officer of CzechInvest, said:
“Investments of this scale are about far more than the construction of a manufacturing facility. They create centres of excellence around which innovation, talent and new partnerships can flourish. For CzechInvest, success is not measured solely by attracting investment, but by helping build the ecosystem that allows such investments to generate lasting value.
The future competitiveness of both the Czech Republic and Europe will depend on our ability to connect world-class technologies, skilled people and long-term collaboration between industry, academia and the public sector. Projects such as Novo Nordisk’s investment in Bohumil demonstrate what can be achieved when those elements come together.”
